There is a safety alert out there showing what looks to be a cell phone but really is a weapon that fires bullets. Looking close at the video the suspect grips the phone as you would a pistol and points it at the officer, so I would have shot him too.

I was in Shreveport when this happened. The reverend's Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson began vying for television time as quickly as possible. There is a third dash-cam that shows the recently deceased shove the cell phone in an officer's face. The officer falls back thinking that he has been shot. It is at this point that the other two officer's open up on him. We watched the crime scene footage and this was a truly righteous shoot.

When I saw the first part, I was wondering why he shot the individual. Good thing the second part of the video was there, both those officers could've lost their careers, belongings, homes and maybe even families just because of some ignorant thug. I think the individual was asking "suicide by cop."

A good thing there was more than the first camera. They would have hanged the good guy for this.

Yeah it was a cell phone indeed. I know I'd duck too... cell phone or not! Good shoot.

subskip - you are right, it was determined to be a cell phone. I could swear he took a shot at the officer behind him as the officer ducked down.

Wasn't it determined that the suspect was actually pointing a cell phone? Makes no difference as it was still a good shooting.

This video was not filmed in Southern California it took place in Shreveport,La. I am an officer 35 miles west of Shreveport and we saw ths video at least a hundred times on the news but never to its full content, until Kilgore Police Academy got hold of it and started using it in training. Shreveport media kept claiming that officers should of shot him in the leg or shoulder and this turned into a hughe racial thing. There is a third camera view that backs up the second view.

The camera never blinks or lies and is only biased in the media's hands.

GREAT VIDEO. JUST GOES TO SHOW THE PERCEPTION OF WHAT THE MEDIA MAY SHOW (1ST VIDEO) AS OPPOSED TO THE 2ND VIDEO (THE TRUE CRIME) THAT SHOWS HIM NOT ONLY POINTING A WEAPON AT AN OFFICER, BUT ALSO FIRING 1 SHOT. GOOD JOB PD.
