Holy bad scenario batman! It's easy to Monday morning quarterback, but id refused, go back to squad, call for back up and reassess situation while waiting. The whole neighborhood must have gotten back from work early that day. j/k

If you work in a city... backup is your friend

The officer is fortunate this situation did not result in his receiving serious injuries. With a car full of people, he should have called for backup and called in the tag with number of folks in the car. Discussing what he observed only served to infuriate the group. He should have requested ID, when it was not forthcoming, removed party from vehicle with help of back-up. I can see an obstruction charge at the very minimum; possibly a felony obstruction for the violence toward the officer..
