The traffic looked like it was just becoming heavier. I think the officer performing the pit was justified because you never know what can happen. What was the initial call?

OK great but look beyond the pit, I see a fellow officer conducting a take down on foot and another officer in a vehicle nearly taking his legs off...that is the situation I was thinking about the most.

Great tackle...but something I was told that has stuck with me 'never confuse good luck with good tactics'. At the end of the day though, good result for the team.

ndfiveo makes a good point. Be thankful that the courts have recognized that it is the perception of the officer during the incident that counts most heavily. In my state, the PIT is considerd deadly force so officers must meet that criteria. this officer must have felt other lives were at risk of death or great bodily harm by these guys. I can easily see why.

I hate armchair-quarterbacking fellow LEOs, and I'm not trained in the PIT, but I'm not sure when a good time would have been. If the officer thought it needed to be stopped, then who am I to second guess him. Had he decided to let him go, he may have carjacked another vehicle or been involved in a fatality crash.
