I never leave the bolt locked back. Also, I never drop my barrel in the dirt- I guess we are all different.

Decent Video, however, I like to turn my optics on before I start my shift, your rifle should be good to go when you need it. If you are concerned about batteries then get an Aimpoint or change them regularly. Messing around with your optics is time wasted. I do agree with running back-up iron sights, really no reason not to. I would not leave the bolt locked back during patrol. I can’t understand why some agencies would mandate that. Not only could it inadvertently close, it leaves the gun open for debris or other unpleasantness to get into the chamber. I wouldn’t advocate using the index finger to close the bolt, if running it left handed I’d invert the rifle and hit it with my support hands palm. The old fine motor skill vs. gross motor skill. I agree with patriot1884 about rotating chambered rounds and gwarden0607 in regards to the muzzle in the dirt. Good points guys.

That has got to be their departments S.O.P. I don't agree with that locking of the bolt back also I am a southpaw and have a BAD lever to release my bolt forward with ease. The barrel in the dirt was not wise either. Also being a lefty I cup my right had over the ejection port and catch my round when clearing it. Being in the service before joining the force Hs allowed me to be one with my Patrol Rifle.

Be sure that you check the barrel for any debris that you may have shoved into it after jamming the muzzle into the ground when you pick up your ejected round!

You should not put the same round you chamber back at the top of your magazine. Every time your bolt slams forward it scores the round slightly.. You do it enough and the round can fire unintentionally. Also not a good idea to have the bolt locked back while on patrol. Charge it when you need it.
